A glimpse at just a really few projects last year creating happy sailors

Tachometer revision
This Volvo Penta tachometer was completely unreadable and useless. I took the unit apart, cut a new Lexan cover and designed a new bezel, with colors to indicate the preferred RPM range.
Ready for another decade of service.

Hatch locking knob
All the bakelite hatch locking knobs inside this 1973 Jeanneau were falling apart. The sailor searched for new knobs without success and then he learned about Simon. I designed and printed exact duplicate new knobs in tough ABS plastic.

U-bracket support
To mount 65mm inox davits on the stern of a 1996 Gibsea, I designed U-bracket supports to create a few mm distance between the polyester and the inox and increasing the contact surface between the bracket and the tube. I printed in very tough 68D shore hardness rubber. The tube is now 360° enclosed by the support, creating enough friction for secure mounting.

Engine control unit revision
This Volvo Penta engine control unit on a 2019 Bavaria 39 had a worn dirty front cover that could not be refurbished. So I designed a new cover with cutouts for the knobs and text with a wink to the charter company's name ;-).
Looking brand new, ready for another beautiful Greek sunny sailing adventure.

Wind angle sensor vane
After many years of service, this windvane from a 1999 Bavaria 42 probably could not handle the weight of the bird that liked sitting on it. So either replace the whole sensor which in this case would be quite expensive and annoying since it uses a different connector than a new one. Also...it is mounted on... exactly, 15 meters above the deck.
So I designed and printed an exact duplicate in tough UV-resistant ASA. I did use the same counter weight and of course I balaced it out thoroughly. So up into the mast, replacing it which took just 15 minutes and saving the sailor a lot of money and hassle.

Speaker grille
I am sure many sailors recognize this problem. Your expensive waterproof outdoor speakers eventually break. BUT...only the grille, the most fragile part and exposed to UV light for years, making it brittle. Then it breaks but the sound is still perfectly fine. Try to find the exact correct new boat speaker while sailing around the Ionian Islands. Often only sold as sets of 2, rarely with the exact same mounting template and surely not cheap, if you find it at all. That's no way to spend your holiday!
So I have designed and printed many different speaker grilles in the past year. Always nice to see happy customers chilling and dancing.

Deck hatch interior cover
On a 2007 Bavaria 42 the interior is full of fake wood. When new it looks quite nice but the plastic material is not UV resistant. So on this yacht, the deck hatch bezels simply fall apart. The easiest solution was to design thin covers and glue these on the old material. Looks great again and it is ready for many more years of sunlight.

Mirror bezels
Even on fairly new yachts, the salty moist environment causes the mirror edges to erode. The only option is to replace the mirror, not always easy to remove and fairly expensive.
I designed many bezels for mirrors during the past year to cover the filthy edges and ensure the mirror will look as new for the coming years. A cost effective and quick solution for this common problem.

Engine hatch hinge covers
How annoying it is, that even on new yachts, the wood around the engine hatch hinges gets eroded within just a few years. Looks terrible, how can this yacht be just 4 years old?? And how to solve this problem without spending hundreds of Euros?
Contact Simon and get your 3D printed covers to hide it. A simple solution for a stupid problem.

Lewmar window bezels
Almost all of the 26 (!) Lewmar window bezels on this 50 foot sail yacht from 1991 were falling apart, brittle and yellow stained due to 30 years of UV exposure. But for these old windows, the correct layout is not available anymore, the new ones are slightly different. So I designed exact duplicates of the three sizes on this yacht and printed these is UV-resistant ASA material for another 30 years of joy on the water.
